Founded in 1991 by master watchmaker Franck Muller and entrepreneur Vartan Sirmakes, the independent Geneva manufacture quickly established itself as a force in contemporary watchmaking. Celebrated as the “Master of Complications” with a legacy of over 50 world premieres and patents developed at its “Watchland” manufacture in Genthod, Geneva, the Maison has consistently pushed technical boundaries, introduced groundbreaking mechanisms and reinterpreted classical horology with a bold, modern identity in haute horlogerie. Among its most emblematic achievements is the development of multi-axis tourbillons that have become a signature of the Maison.

To showcase its latest achievements, the esteemed watch brand recently organised the World Presentation of Haute Horlogerie (WPHH), which took place from the 14th to the 18th April 2026 at the refined Domaine du Grand Malagny. Surrounded by the verdant backdrop of the charming village of Genthod, situated in the Geneva countryside, collectors, retailers, journalists and industry insiders convened to immerse themselves in the artistry and unparalleled craftsmanship of fine watchmaking.

Offering a more intimate atmosphere compared to larger international watch fairs, WPHH provided guests with an insider’s perspective to Franck Muller’s new creations, pieces in which technical innovation and bold design reign supreme. With its unique approach to complications and aesthetics, the event also afforded those in attendance with the opportunity to visit the Maison’s Watchland Manufacture and be privy to presentations from other participating partner brands.

At World Presentation of Haute Horlogerie 2026 (WPHH), Franck Muller presented the Vanguard Aero Revolution 3 Skeleton, highlighting a new interpretation of its expertise in watchmaking complications. Limited exclusively to only eight pieces, this high-complication masterpiece follows in the lineage of the manufacture’s most technical creations and offers an open view of the groundbreaking tri-axial tourbillon, where the design of the case and the movement are closely intertwined to showcase the mechanics, with the case acting as a true frame around the movement.

Within this spirit of innovation, the Vanguard collection represents a more contemporary, dynamic expression of Franck Muller’s DNA. It is in this context that the Vanguard Aero Revolution 3 Skeleton emerges. A stunning offering, it not only advances the collection but redefines how mechanical complexity can be experienced visually.

Rather than a simple evolution, this third-generation Aero Revolution is a complete rethinking of structure and perception. The most immediate impression is its radical openness. The case and movement have been conceived as a single entity, allowing the mechanics to unfold in full view. In a bold departure from traditional construction, the movement is mounted directly onto the case back, necessitating a complete redesign of the bridges, gear train, and barrel system. The result is a striking three-dimensional architecture in which the components appear suspended in space, visible from virtually every angle.

This pursuit of transparency extends even to the functional elements. The crown system has been entirely re-engineered to integrate seamlessly within the openworked case, preserving both aesthetics and water resistance. Adjustments are discreetly managed through a corrector ingeniously embedded within the case back crystal, maintaining the uninterrupted visual purity of the watch.

At the heart of this architectural marvel lies Franck Muller’s iconic tri-axial tourbillon, presented here in its most exposed and theatrical form. Composed of three concentric cages, the mechanism rotates on multiple axes, with the innermost completing a revolution every 60 seconds, the second every eight minutes, and the outermost every hour. This constant motion not only creates a mesmerising visual spectacle but also enhances chronometric performance by continuously altering the position of the balance wheel in space.

Encasing this mechanical ballet is the signature Vanguard tonneau case, crafted from 18-carat rose gold and measuring 43.9 mm by 52.1 mm, with a thickness of 16.45 mm. Fully openworked and fitted with sapphire crystal on both sides, the case offers unobstructed views of the movement while retaining structural integrity. Its curved contours ensure a comfortable fit on the wrist, balancing boldness with ergonomic refinement.

Powering the watch is the in-house calibre MVT FM 2031-SMR-VS-NR, a manually wound movement composed of 280 components. Beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, it is driven by a dual-barrel system that delivers an exceptional 10-day power reserve, which is an impressive achievement given the energy demands of a tri-axial tourbillon. The movement’s skeletonised construction reveals not only its architecture but also its finishing, which adheres to the highest standards of haute horlogerie. Mirror polishing, hand bevelling, diamond-polished sinks, circular satin brushing, sunray finishes, and delicate snailing all coexist in a harmonious interplay of textures and light.

Time indication is intentionally understated, with off-centred hands floating above the openworked landscape. This asymmetry reinforces the watch’s depth and directs attention toward the tourbillon, which remains the undeniable focal point of the composition.

What ultimately distinguishes the Vanguard Aero Revolution 3 Skeleton is its ability to transform engineering into spectacle. It dissolves the traditional boundaries between case and movement, turning the entire watch into a stage where every component plays a visible role. The decision to expose the mechanism so completely is not merely aesthetic, but a statement of confidence, a declaration that every detail deserves to be seen.

In completely rethinking its construction, the Vanguard Aero Revolution 3 Skeleton is a lesson in beautiful transparency

Yet, for all its complexity, the watch is steeped in refinement. The integrated black alligator leather strap and 18-carat rose gold buckle provide a sense of continuity and comfort, ensuring that this highly technical creation retains its identity as a wearable object of luxury.

With the Vanguard Aero Revolution 3 Skeleton, Franck Muller once again demonstrates its mastery of both form and function. It is a watch that does not hide its complexity but celebrates it, transforming timekeeping into a dynamic, immersive experience. In doing so, it captures the very essence of modern “haute horlogerie,” where innovation is not only engineered, but also performed.
