Art Jakarta Gardens recently transformed the urban oasis of Hutan Kota by Plataran into a vibrant canvas of contemporary expression from May 5 to 10, 2026. Now celebrating its highly anticipated fifth edition, this beloved open-air art fair breathes fresh creative life into the bustling capital. Born out of an innovative vision to safely exhibit art during the 2022 pandemic, the event has successfully flourished into an unmissable annual highlight that distinctly bridges the gap between nature and human creativity.
Unlike the traditional indoor layout of the flagship Art Jakarta event or the newly introduced Art Jakarta Papers held earlier in February, this garden edition offers a uniquely intertwined layout. It encourages visitors to discover art in a completely new way by seamlessly fusing formal indoor gallery presentations with dynamic, large-scale outdoor displays.
This year, the fair proudly welcomed 26 prominent galleries from across Indonesia and the wider Asian region, beautifully housed within two bespoke tents specifically erected for the lush site. Yet, the true showstopper of the event was the signature Sculpture Garden. Effortlessly integrated into the venue’s breathtaking tropical landscape, this segment featured over 30 striking, three-dimensional works crafted by exceptional artistic talents. Visitors were encouraged to wander freely among masterful creations from renowned Indonesian artists such as Sunaryo, Nyoman Nuarta, Tisna Sanjaya, Arkiv Vilmansa, Adi Gunawan and Naufal Abshar, just to name a few, turning a simple park stroll into an immersive and highly tactile aesthetic journey.
The event’s ambitious scale was made possible through robust collaborations with key industry partners who actively bring their own artistic flair to the festival grounds. Lead partner Bibit teamed up with acclaimed Yogyakarta-based artist Mulyana to present “Tentacles of Wealth”, a thought-provoking installation featuring his iconic knitted octopus, Mogus, designed to symbolise financial adaptability in uncertain times.
Meanwhile, iForte Energi collaborated with Sigit D. Pratama (Founder and Principal Designer .this/PLAY) to unveil “Solagua” (Sun and Water), a mesmerising new media installation powered simultaneously by solar energy and a rhythmic water mist system. Elsewhere, TACO elevated the visual cohesion by providing specialised aesthetic bases for the outdoor sculptures while hosting a free eco-friendly recycling workshop open to the public. Complementing the outdoor ambience, LUAR ensured maximum visitor comfort by supplying stylish, weather-resistant outdoor furniture and thoughtfully provided umbrellas to shield guests from unpredictable weather.
Beyond the captivating visual arts, the fair was a comprehensive sensory celebration amplified by an incredibly dynamic public programme. Music at the Garden, presented by Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation and meticulously curated by Plainsong Live, infused the evening air with diverse soundscapes from top-tier local musicians, including the likes of Ali, BABON, Basajan, Batavia Collective, Jo Soegono, Klav, Klegoth Breaks, Pelteras, Rrag and The Cottons.
The artistic energy continued to flow with profound performance art pieces tailored for the open space. Presented by YIRI ARTS, attendees witnessed Sarita Ibnoe’s “Bertemu di Tengah”, an intimate exploration of geographical boundaries, and were captivated by legendary Acehnese storyteller Agus Nur Amal PM Toh in his deeply human “Kisah dari Samudera”. Adding a layer of traditional depth, the Swargaloka troupe presented “Laku Swargaloka”, a performative and highly emotional journey across generations.
