Not every watch is designed to blend in.
For decades, sports chronographs have largely followed a familiar formula. Black dials, silver accents and conservative colour palettes have long dominated the category, appealing to collectors who favour versatility and restraint. The TUDOR Black Bay Chrono 39 “Bumblebee” takes a different approach entirely—bright yellow, unapologetically so.
As the latest addition to TUDOR’s Daring Watches collection, the Black Bay Chrono 39 “Bumblebee” arrives with a vibrant yellow dial framed by contrasting black sub-counters, creating a look that is impossible to ignore. Sitting alongside the brand’s “Pink” and “Flamingo Blue” models, it demonstrates TUDOR’s growing willingness to challenge expectations while remaining firmly rooted in its sporting heritage. Yet beneath its playful personality lies a serious chronograph.
The new model introduces a compact 39 mm stainless steel case that wears noticeably differently from previous Black Bay Chronograph references. At 13.1 mm thick, the proportions feel balanced and contemporary, offering a more versatile fit while preserving the robust character that has long defined the collection. Satin-brushed and polished surfaces work alongside a fixed bezel with a black anodised aluminium tachymeter insert, reinforcing the watch’s connection to motorsport timing. That connection is no accident.
TUDOR’s relationship with racing dates back to 1970, when the brand introduced the Oysterdate, its first chronograph. Distinguished by its bold colours, practical functionality and unmistakable design language, it quickly found favour within the motorsport world. More than five decades later, the Black Bay Chrono 39 continues that legacy while introducing a distinctly modern interpretation.
The dial reflects this balance between past and present. TUDOR’s iconic “Snowflake” hands, first introduced in 1969, have been redesigned to improve readability alongside the chronograph registers. The familiar 45-minute counter and date display at six o’clock pay tribute to the layout of early TUDOR chronographs, while the bright yellow dial ensures the watch remains anything but nostalgic.
Powering the Black Bay Chrono 39 is the Manufacture Chronograph Calibre MT5813, a COSC-certified movement equipped with a column-wheel construction and vertical clutch system. Offering a 70-hour power reserve, a silicon balance spring and chronometer-certified precision, it delivers the level of performance expected from a modern sports chronograph while maintaining the reliability for which TUDOR has become known.
The watch is paired with a new three-link stainless steel bracelet fitted with TUDOR’s practical “T-fit” rapid adjustment clasp. Designed for everyday comfort, the system allows the bracelet length to be adjusted without tools, offering additional flexibility throughout the day.
What makes the Black Bay Chrono 39 “Bumblebee” compelling, however, is not merely its specifications. It is the confidence behind its design. In an industry that often leans towards subtlety, TUDOR has chosen colour. In a category frequently defined by caution, it has embraced personality.
The result is a chronograph that feels true to the brand’s “Born To Dare” philosophy. Bold without being excessive, playful without sacrificing performance, and unmistakably TUDOR from every angle.
Sometimes standing out is exactly the point.
