Jakarta’s premium spirits scene has a new name to know. The GlenAllachie, the independent Speyside distillery that has twice been named World’s Best Single Malt, marked its Indonesia debut with a grand launch at The Concierge Bar, staged under a fitting theme: “Wood, Time & Wonder.”
The evening opened with an intimate tasting for 60 invited guests, walking them through four expressions, the 10, 12, 15, and 18 Year Old, each built to reveal a different chapter of the distillery’s cask-led character: sherried depth and dark fruit in one glass, spice and oak in another, honeyed richness and a long, composed finish in the next. Tasted side by side, the range told the story of a distillery that treats wood management not as a finishing touch, but as the very foundation of its whisky.
That foundation is shaped largely by one figure: Billy Walker, among Scotch whisky’s most respected makers. His approach to maturation is patient and instinctive, with each cask followed closely until wood, spirit, and time settle into balance. It’s an approach that has paid off on the global stage. The GlenAllachie 12 Year Old, the distillery’s flagship, was crowned World’s Best Single Malt 2025 at the World Whiskies Awards, a title the distillery had already claimed once before, in 2021, with its 10 Year Old Cask Strength Batch 4.
The launch itself carried that same duality between craft and spectacle. A live saxophone performance accompanied the bottle reveal, and as the evening wore on, the saxophonist joined the DJ for a run of R&B and EDM, while GlenAllachie 12 was poured through cocktails and served on the rocks. It made a simple point: serious whisky doesn’t have to sit still at a tasting table.
For The GlenAllachie, Indonesia’s arrival is as much about people as it is about product. “Indonesia represents an exciting new chapter for GlenAllachie Distillers Co.,” said Ciara Hepburn, the brand’s International Sales Manager. “As one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic and rapidly evolving premium spirits markets, it offers a tremendous opportunity to introduce our award-winning portfolio to a new generation of whisky enthusiasts. We are delighted to partner with the Cikel Abadi team in bringing the craftsmanship, authenticity and innovation of Billy Walker and the GlenAllachie Distillers Co. to consumers across Indonesia.”
Edhi Sumadi, Chief Principal of The GlenAllachie Indonesia, sees the timing as no coincidence, pointing to a natural fit between the brand and the country’s maturing spirits culture. “This is a brand with real substance, globally awarded, independently driven, and deeply rooted in craftsmanship,” he said. “For Indonesian whisky drinkers who are looking beyond familiar labels and seeking something with character, depth, and identity, The GlenAllachie brings a very meaningful proposition.”
That substance shows up in the details: natural colour, non-chill filtration, and higher-strength bottling, choices that preserve texture, aroma, and flavour rather than smoothing them over. It’s a style built to reward attention without demanding it, equally at home with collectors, seasoned drinkers, and newcomers to single malt alike.
Following the launch, The GlenAllachie is available in retail through Drip Drop Bottleshop, and on-trade at select venues across Jakarta including Bottom Parlour, Truce Bar, Concierge Bar, and Cohiba Atmosphere.
Behind every cask, and now behind its Indonesian debut, sits the same idea the brand has built its name on: Whisky in Good Hands. Not a slogan, but a description, of the people, patience, and quiet expertise carrying The GlenAllachie from Speyside to a new generation of drinkers here.
