The new Valentino Pre-Fall 2026 collection reveals an unexpected shift in Alessandro Michele’s creative vision – a designer long associated with excess who now embraces a calculated minimalism to reshape contemporary elegance. Moving away from overt maximalism, Michele explores the idea of simplicity as a form of expression, allowing shape, proportion and subtle detail to carry emotional weight.
“I’m in a phase where absence feels decorative—like I’m creating the negative of my maximalism,” he explained. “I went through a stage where my language was very precise and very much about adding rather than subtracting. This activity probably led me to the need to explore something else… It’s something I’ve never done before and that I’m enjoying very much because it’s giving me back a new freedom from creative point of view.
“Because I feel [overwhelmed] by information and images of all kinds in general and this is like cutting out things and observing them from a different angle. And it’s also the great secret for whoever does my job: not to get bored,” Michele stated.
Drawing heavily from the maison’s 1980s and 1990s archives, the silhouettes emphasise strong shoulders, precise tailoring, and clean lines. Womenswear feature sleek minidresses, structured jackets, and micro miniskrits, often softened by lace inserts, velvet trims, and matelassé textures. These elements create a dialogue between structure and intimacy, classic elegance, and contemporary ease, resulting in looks that feel both familiar and quietly subversive.
In menswear, the hushed approach was conveyed via clean and minimal sartorial pieces, relaxed fits and earthy tones. The pieces project confidence through simplicity, occasionally punctuated by subtle flourishes that nod to Valentino’s theatrical heritage without overpowering the overall calm of the collection. Colour plays a strategic role throughout, with bold pairings—such as mustard and blue or red and navy—balanced against neutral foundations.
A key highlight of Valentino Pre-Fall 2026 is the reintroduction of Valentino’s iconic Rockstud, reworked into sharper, more architectural forms. Appearing across footwear and accessories, the motif feels refreshed rather than nostalgic, reinforcing the brand’s legacy while aligning it with a modern sensibility.
Ultimately, the collection redefines elegance through precision and intention, presenting Valentino that is confident, reflective, and unmistakably contemporary.
