The light hits differently on blue. Not electric, not royal, but the soft, faded blue of a sky just before a storm breaks or after one has passed. That is where FENDI Ambassador, Bang Chan stands in FENDI’s new Pre‑Collection Fall/Winter 2026 digital campaign.

Indeed, summer escapes don’t always require a plane ticket. Sometimes they arrive in a whisper of sky blue with a brown trompe‑l’oeil Selleria motif, paired with dark blue jeans and Pequin lace‑ups inspired by boat shoes. The FENDI Lui bag in denim? It completes the look.

This is the compelling worldview guiding FENDI’s current creative direction. While the campaign calls it an “ode to effortless sophistication”, the Maison makes sure that effortlessness is never accidental. The leader of the K-pop boy band, Stray Kids, is not dressed to go on a holiday, or a formless day. Nor is this laziness masquerading as luxury. Both FENDI and Bang Chan believe poise is the ultimate form of control.

Look across the full Pre‑Collection and the intention becomes clear. FENDI is testing a different proposition: that soft and precise are not feminine or masculine, they are simply choices.

Punches of terracotta, turquoise, saffron, and coral reveal themselves in dynamic stripes that meet tactile finishes; in elongated dresses standing beside relaxed shirting, coordinated sets that slide from day to evening without friction. Every piece in this collection has been chosen to become the escapism itself, to show that fluid silhouettes still require structure underneath. That studied nonchalance is a goal achieved only through deliberate editing.

Through the needle, FENDI is stitching a secret into the fabric that does not just speak to the eyes. It teases them. Take the French term trompe‑l’oeil—”deceive the eye”—across that light blue sweater. The brown motif is a drawing of a stitch, not a real one. A line that pretends to be thread pulled through fabric by hand.

But the illusion is not a shortcut. Selleria is FENDI’s oldest leatherworking technique, born in 1925 when the house first adapted the saddle stitch for luxury goods. To paint it rather than sew it is a wink. The kind that says: we know you know. And if you don’t, we are happy to wait.

Within this framework, Bang Chan’s presence reads as a natural fit. He layers oversized hoodies with tailored coats, combat boots with denim; nothing is thrown together. While the look feels loose, the thinking behind it is not. Before his debut, the singer spent years in training and eventually was tasked with selecting the members of what would become the Stray Kids today. The act of handpicking—of assembling individuals into a cohesive whole—mirrors a process of design itself. It requires instinct, but also discipline: an ability to recognise potential, to edit, to refine.

Born in Australia and later relocating to Korea as a teenager, his trajectory is defined by the transition between cultures, languages, and systems of expression. To move between different worlds is to train for it. That training informs a sensibility attuned to translation, to the negotiation between different codes. In fashion, as in music, this kind of fluency becomes a form of authorship.

This duality of control beneath apparent ease echoes FENDI’s own language. The Roman atelier has long negotiated between structure and fluidity, between the rigour of craft and the lightness of modern expression. Now in its centenary year, that balance feels refreshingly relevant and worth cherishing.
