Standing at the precipice of change, the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet collection symbolises the thrilling moments before a new day. In its unwavering dedication to innovation, Audemars Piguet has amassed a series of luxury timepieces that blend versatility with creativity, all under the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet line. Taking on varying sizes, materials, colours, and complications since 2019, the collection has even evolved to include a refined model: the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding 38 mm. This year, the haute horologist revisits the evocative 38 mm timepiece with two new variations that brilliantly reflect the passage of time through juxtaposing dials.
The new Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding present faces with two contrasting sides to the versatile design. One embraces dark, intense tones while the other light and luminous hues, each creating a timeless and fluid appeal. The former model is intensified by its black alligator leather strap, whereas the latter silver iteration leans towards a vintage allure with its camel calfskin strap. For each variation, 18-carat pink gold has been crafted into a slim yet structured 38 mm case, which houses the double glareproofed sapphire crystal and case back. The case effectively protects its movement from the outside world and is water-resistant up to 30 metres.
Designed for smaller wrists, the timepiece fuses pink gold accents with the collection’s signature motif: concentric circles reminiscent of ripples on water, punctuated by fine grooves that capture the light. Against the black or silver dial, the watch elegantly wears its slender 18-carat pink gold hour markers whose warmth matches that of the luminescent hands, which stand out enhancing legibility, comfort and modernity of these multifaceted designs. Thoughtfully conceived in both design and function, the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding retains exceptional clarity. Furthermore, a pink gold-rimmed date aperture can also be seen at 3 o’clock.
Despite their juxtaposing palettes, the new Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding 38 mm watches remain true to their essence. Similar to the first selfwinding model that was unveiled in 2023, these new iterations bear all the markings of the original. Far more than just following its elegant lines, the new timepieces are also home to a vigorous movement that has withstood the test of time: the Selfwinding Calibre 5900. Previously housed in other Audemars Piguet novelties, the improved movement that oscillates at a 4 Hz frequency offers a 60-hour power reserve. At just 11 ½ lignes wide, the calibre is Audemars Piguet’s newest selfwinding movement, and one that is adorned with refined decorations. In addition to the notable 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight, much care and attention were put into the making of this movement, as proven by the Côtes de Genève décor, polished angles, vertical satin brushing, and so much more.
The ceaseless evolution and innovation of the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet continues to bring unparalleled joy and excitement to watch collectors all over the world. With the release of the 38 mm models, the Manufacture provides inclusivity to high horology without compromising its top-notch quality. Complications remain at the heart of Audemars Piguet’s DNA and the collective history of the Vallée de Joux. Since its inception in 1875, the Manufacture has specialised in perpetual calendars, chronographs, and chiming watches—feats of horological mastery that honour the past yet also embrace the future.
