In the hills of Matera, southern Italy, a philosophy of comfort has been quietly perfected since 1965. Now, it has found a new home in Jakarta.

KATTA, the destination known for curating world-class furniture brands, has officially introduced Calia Italia to Indonesia. The appointment names KATTA as the brand’s authorised dealer, bringing one of Italy’s most influential furniture houses to the local luxury living scene.

The launch, themed “Calia Italia: From Matera with Style Since 1965”, was as much a celebration of heritage as it was a product unveiling. Architects, interior designers and design enthusiasts gathered to mark the occasion, joined by Carlo Chisena, Export Sales Manager of Calia Italia, alongside Anggraito Suhartono of A+A Architecture Interior and Adi Janitra of Studio Talk.

Behind the evening’s warm reception lies a story that stretches back to 1960s Italy.

Founded by Liborio Vincenzo Calia, the brand has spent more than six decades refining its craft from its base in southern Italy. Its reputation rests on sofas and upholstered furniture that carry the warmth of Italian living, shaped by artisan tradition, considered technological innovation, and a deep understanding of how people actually inhabit their spaces.

That understanding is best expressed in the Gianduiotto Sofa, the undisputed highlight of the Jakarta launch. Named after the celebrated Piedmontese chocolate it visually echoes, the piece is unmistakably sculptural. Its silhouette is soft and rounded, its proportions generous, its presence inviting lingering afternoons rather than passing use.

More than a design statement, the Gianduiotto embodies Calia Italia’s central belief: that furniture should serve human experience first, form second.

“Every Calia Italia collection is born from the understanding that home is a space for living, sharing, and creating meaningful moments,” said Chisena. He noted that the brand’s six-decade pursuit of timeless comfort rests on craftsmanship, quality, and the skill of Italian artisans—values the brand is now bringing to the Indonesian market through its partnership with KATTA.

For KATTA, the addition reinforces a wider shift already under way among its clientele.

“We see more clients seeking homes that aren’t just visually beautiful, but that also align with their rhythm and way of living,” said Suhartono and Janitra, reflecting on the growing demand for interiors that feel personal rather than performative.

It is a sentiment echoed by Wiji Kusumaningrum, Director of KATTA Indonesia, who sees furniture as inseparable from how people choose to live. “Furniture is not merely an object that fills a room—it is part of how someone lives and expresses who they are,” she said, noting that every brand under KATTA’s roof passes through a rigorous curatorial process. Calia Italia, she added, represents values the destination holds dear: authentic design, genuine craftsmanship, and comfort meant to be enjoyed across generations.

The arrival of Calia Italia strengthens KATTA’s standing as a destination for those who value design excellence and honest craftsmanship. Beyond simply presenting furniture, the collaboration offers a fresh perspective—one where comfort, aesthetics and quality converge into a more meaningful expression of luxury living.

From the hills of Matera to the heart of Jakarta, timeless Italian comfort has arrived.
